Not Sure What to Give as a Gift? - Gift Certificates Available for any Amount

Gift certificates can be redeemed for community education, aquatics, ECFE or Kids Club classes/events. Gift certificates are available in the Community Services and Early Childhood offices or call 763-792-6100.

Centennial Community Education Instructors Needed
Centennial Community Education always welcomes new activity ideas. Instructors work with community education coordinators to develop a variety of activities for all ages in many areas. We are currently seeking instructors who can teach woodworking, cooking, writing, bicycle and basic auto repair or maintenance and stained glass for youth and or adults, as well as Spanish language for adults and basic computer classes for youth. Please contact us if you have any questions or are interested in discussing the possibility of working with us in any of these specific areas or another you may have a skill you would like to share with others. We are currently planning for fall activities. Call Community Services for more information at 763-792-6100.

Identify Your Learning Style (grades 6-10)

Remember a favorite teacher and what that teacher did to make class fun? Most likely that teacher taught in a style that was similar to how you learn best. Everyone has a way they naturally learn best, its called a learning style. From learning best by seeing, doing or hearing, determine which style fits you best. Discover methods that help you to adapt your style to every classroom situation.

Grades 6 & 7 sessions begin in Sept.

Pilates

Intro & mat exercises, ages 11 and up.  For all levels - beginner to advanced.  Strengthen and tone muscles.  Pilates improves posture, provides flexibility and balance, unites body and mind, and creates more streamlined shape.  Focus on core conditioning, working the abs & back muscles through beginner & intermediate mat exercises.  Wear non-baggy, comfortable clothing and bring a towel/mat.  Not recommended for pregnant women.

Log Cabin Quilt

This all-time favorite quilt pattern is great for beginners and experienced quilters. Class will cover quilt-making basics, sewing, exploring design layouts and adding borders to your quilt. Quilting options will be discussed. Prepare to do homework to complete twin size (63 ½ X 87 ½) quilt top in three sessions. Supply and material list will be mailed prior to class. Cost includes pattern, instructions & voucher for one free visit to QNO.

Planting Fall Bulbs & Preparing Gardens for the Winter

Learn how to prepare a garden for winter before the snow flies! Harsh winters can damage costly perennials and shrubs.  Joni horticulturist, Pam Larson Frink as she teaches which plants need winter protection and which ones are hardy on their own.  Explore ideas of fall bulb planting and how to get a head start on a spring garden.

Discover the secrets behind the stars and make a star locator. Discuss the constellations and create a canister constellation. Learn about the phases of the moon. Qualifies for Brownie Try-it credit.

Absolutely Abdominals

Humans have four layers of abdominal muscles, each with fibers running in a different direction. This criss-crossing pattern shapes the mid-section and supports the lower back. There are many reasons abdominal muscles can weaken and lose shape, past pregnancies, abdominal surgery, sitting at a desk for hours to name a few. Learn to strengthen ab muscles and re-shape waistline without getting on the floor. Strengthen from the inside out and relieve lower back discomfort. Exercises taught are easy to use anywhere and anytime and fit into busy schedules. Also discuss how to get rid of bloating and water retention. Come prepared to exercise and bring a mat. Instructor Janice Novak, has a master’s in Health & Physical Education, is an author, speaker and consultant.
